RPGMaker 2K Installation FAQ
by.Dhenji
Intro
I was looking forward to making a faq,
but I didn't know what to make a FAQ on. Gemin-eye
pretty much has the whole "making-an-rpg" FAQs covered (and by all means necessary, go check his FAQS
out, they're really worth it), and Junodark has made
the Database FAQ (which is also very good), and so I thought "What are
some of the questions people in #RM2K ask that has not yet been covered in a
FAQ?" And basically the first answer I got was the installation questions,
which most of us never have an answer to. Well, that's all gonna
change now... :)
Enjoy the FAQ..
1. Downloading
You may be going "wtf? does this guy think we don't know we have to download the
damn program yet?" Well, a lot of the problems in installing RPGM2K lies in what exactly you download. First of all, you have to
download RM2000E.exe, and RTPE.exe (or RTP.exe, depending on where you download
it from). Basically both of those exe's include (in
no order): the actual program, png's, wav's, mid's, English translation
(duh ;p), and more. You can get the two exe's needed right off of Don Miguel's site. I've
conveniently linked them below:
-Remember: This is a
PC/Win-Only Program.
Download This First, as well as install this
first:
Link 1[Russia/Europe],
Link 2[Russia/Europe],
Link 3[USA], Link 4[USA]
Download This Second, and install this
after the first exe is installed:
Link 1[Russia/Europe], Link 2[Russia/Europe], Link 3[USA], Link 4[USA]
***Note: All these links are direct-link
downloads from links found in Don Miguel's site.
Once you download both of those, move on you Step 2. :)
(if your connection isn't steady, I recommend using GetRight
or a program of the sort to help you resume your download should you get signed
off.)
2. Installing
RM2000E.exe
The first screen you should get as you double-click on RM2000E.exe is:
Choose Language
And "English (
Next window that should come out after you press "Next" should be:
Select installation directory
The default directory is "C:\Program Files\ASCII\RPG2000" I recommend
you just leave the directory as is, but if you feel the need to change it for
any reason, go ahead and do so now by either: 1) manually typing out the
directory you want it to be in, or 2) selecting the "Browse..."
button (which will let you choose the directory, and even "Create..."
one should you feel the need to do so). Click "Next >"
If you did everything correct, the next screen should be one that says:
Start Install
Click "Next >" on that and you're basically half-way through the
whole installation process! :) Congrats!
While the files are installing, the screen should read as:
Installing
Once installation is done with, the next screen should read as:
Readme Information
Click "Next >" and the the final screen
should come up, which reads as:
Installation Complete
Click on "Next >"/"Finish" and you're done! Now go on to
install RTPE.exe
3. Installing RTP(e).exe
Depending on where you
download this exe from, you'll either get RTP.exe or RTPE.exe. Either way it
doesn't matter.
This exe basically includes all the png's, wav's, midi's and fonts needed for
RPGMaker 2000. As with the RM2000E.exe, the first
screen you see should be
Choose Language
and you should choose the same language you chose for RM2000E.exe here. (I
chose "English (United Stated"). Click "Next >"
The next screen should be:
Select installation directory
Basically select the directory (use "Browse..." if you have to) that
you installed RM2000E.exe to. Click "Next >"
The following screen will be:
Start install
While the files are installing, the screen should read as:
Installing
Once installation is done with, the next screen should read as:
Readme Information
Click "Next >" and the the final screen
should come up, which reads as:
Installation Complete
Click on "Next >"/"Finish" and you're done! You've
completely installed RPGMaker2000.
4. Running the
Program
That's it, all that's left for you to do is run RPGMaker 2000 and make RPG's! ;D
To run the actual program, do the following:
Click Start>Programs> RPG Maker 2000 #.##>RPG Maker 2000
To go to Don Miguel's site, do:
Click Start>Programs> RPG Maker 2000 #.##>Don Miguels
RPG Maker 2000 News Site
To play Don Miguel's sample game, do:
Click Start>Programs> RPG Maker 2000 #.##>Sample Game
To uninstall the program, do:
Click Start>Programs> RPG Maker 2000 #.##>Uninstall RPG Maker #.##
#.## = Whatever version of the program you downloaded
